Why Go: Walgreens and Y108 are partnering with Operation Troop Appreciation for a 4-day "Comfort Convoy" rolling through Pittsburgh to provide much needed hygiene, personal care and snack items to deployed troops. Walgreens in Moon, Rochester, Greensburg and Bethel Park, are helping OTA fulfill wish-list requests from troops deployed overseas. Customers can purchase items to donate.
When/Where: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, the Coraopolis United Methodist Church, 1205 Ridge Ave., Coraopolis.
Why Go: The free car check service involves volunteers checking tire pressure, tire tread depth, oil levels, wiper fluid levels and lights. The church will also be hosting a Health Fair and a "Winter Clothes Swap" at the same time and location.

Why Go: Build a Spooky Stacker at Lowe's Build and Grow. After completing the project, kids get to take them home. All ages.

When/Where: 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12 at Mary Roberts Rinehart Nature Park, Glen Osborne.
Why Go: The public is invited to pumpkin painting, storytelling, s'more grilling by the firepit. The park is adjacent to the Osborne Elementary School.
When/Where: 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13 at the Moon Township Public Library.
Why Go: The library is hosting its first Fall Fun Fest for all ages featuring Halloween inspired games, face painting, crafts and treats. Call 412-269-0334 or register online. Residents are invited to spend a little quality time with family.
