5 Things to Know this Week: Sept. 11, Tuskegee Airmen Exhibit, Autumn Festival

Patch gives you a rundown of what's going on around the community.

1. Anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001

Allegheny County is hosting a flag retirement and remembrance ceremony in honor of those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. The free event takes place at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at North Park Flag Retirement Plaza.

Enjoy patriotic and moving songs honor of those who lost their on September 11, 2001, as well as the latest on the country music charts with emerging star Kevin Dale who has been lighting up rooms in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and New Jersey. From noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday the Courtyard Concert Series with Kevin Dale takes place in the Allegheny County Courthouse Courtyard.

2. Tuskegee Airmen Memorial Events

An exhibit recognizing the Tuskegee Airmen will be unveiled Thursday, Sept. 12 at the Pittsburgh International Airport. The memorial dedication is planned for Sunday in the Sewickley Cemetery.

3. Autumn Festival

The 11th annual Autumn Festival is from noon to 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14 at the Burkett Sports and Rec Complex in Robinson Township. The event features games, prizes, information, food, and more. Get a Ride-All-Day pass for $10. For an additional $5, visit the Red Eye Photo Booth and get a set of four photos to remember your time.

4. Annual Moon Library Book Sale

The Moon Township Public Library is holding its annual book sale at the township administration office. Preview night is from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12. The book sale continues from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday through Sept. 21 and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. Contact the library at 412-269-0334 for additional information.

5. Abandoned Vehicle Auction

The Allegheny County Airport Authority will hold an auction of abandoned vehicles at Pittsburgh International Airport on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 10 a.m. in the Airport Heavy Equipment Building on Cargo Road in Moon. There will be a $150 buyers premium on each vehicle. Vehicles will need to be towed from the auction site unless purchased by a dealer with appropriate plates. Doors open at 9 a.m.  Click here for complete details
