Summer Camp Season Kicks off in Moon

Scroll through to view a few township summer camps for your youngster.

Break out the suntan lotion and bug spray: It's (nearly) summer camp season in Moon Township. 

But these camps aren't the stuff of Salute Your Shorts—no, kids these days can wane away their summer days learning about forensics, shooting hoops at a local university or diving into the literary classic Where the Wild Things Are. 

The list below is not exhaustive: If your community organization is hosting a summer camp in the Moon area, list it in the comments section below this article.

RMU camps for high school students: 

  • CSI Forensics: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 18 to June 23. $200. To be held at the university.
  • Earth Materials and Natural Resources: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 19 only. $15. To be held at the university.
  • Energy Workshop: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 20 only. $20. To be held at the university.
  • Animatronics: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 30 to Aug. 4. $200. To be held at the university.
  • Alternative Robotics: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 13 to Aug. 15 $150. To be held at the university.

RMU camps for middle-schoolers: 

  • Where the Wild Things Are camp: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 6 to Aug. 8. $150. To be held at the university.
  • Animatronics: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 6 to Aug. 10. $200. To be held at the university.

  • Mad Science: Ages 5 to 12. 9 a.m. to noon, July 9 to July 13. $120 for Moon residents. To be held at Robin Hill Center. 
  • Western PA Baseball Camp: Ages 7 to 14. 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., June 18 to June 22 and June 25 to June 29. $150 per week. To be held at Moon Park. Contact 412-264-4721, raybosetti@verizon.net for more. 
  • Sports Squirts Camp: Ages 3 to 5. 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., July 16 to July 20. $85. Camp introduces young children to team sports. To be held at Moon Park. 
  • Multi-Sport Camp: Ages 5 to 14. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. or a half-day 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., July 16 to July 20. Full-day $165. Half-day $145. To be held at Moon Park. 

 

girls volleyball team is sponsoring a summer camp for aspiring athletes. Click the media in this article to view the event's registration form and details on attending. 

  • Volleyball camp: Grades four through eight. 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 25 to June 28. $75 and proceeds benefit Moon's volleyball program. To be held at Moon Area High School.

 

men's basketball team is hosting a summer camp at the university. Moon students can attend the first three days of the of the camp at a reduced price. Click the media in this article for details. 

  • RMU basketball camp. Boys camp. June 18 to June 21. Cost is $215 or $165 for Moon students. Campers will receive instruction from RMU coaches and players. To be held at the university. Click the media in this article for more.
