Five Things You Need to Know This Week

Patch gives you a look ahead at what's going on in our area for the week of July 30.

Fiddle and Rocks Strings Music workshop

will host its Fiddle and Rock Strings Music Workshops for children ages 10-18 on Monday at 1:00 to 4 p.m. Taught by well-known local violinist Steven Vance, the workshops are held at the Robin Hill Center.

Cost is $25 for Moon residents, $30 for non-residents.

This workshop is an introduction to fiddle styles by teaching shuffle bowing and double stopping. Participants will learn a few tunes that they will be able to go home and play that night. Paricipants should have at least two years of violin, viola or cello experience is required. Please bring your own instrument.

Animatronics Camp for children sponsored by Robert Morris University starts on Monday

Animatronics is the art and science of designing and building animated sculptures and puppetry through hands-on activities. Camp curriculum includes: introduction to robotics and animatronics, engineering and product design and development, concept development, modeling/prototyping, mechanism design and assembly, electricity and electronics basics, costuming and integration and more.

Camp begins at 9 a.m. at the Robert Morris University campus. Cost is  $200.

Robinson Library features their on Wednesday.

Get moving on the Montour Trail. The walk starts at the access point by Brother's Grimm on Wednesday mornings at 8:30am. A healthy snack will be provided for all walkers. Walkers are asked to sign-up in advance with the library at  1000 Church Hill Rd. The walk is free. 

Take the whole family to Moon Park as continue Friday night. 

Winnie the Pooh will be shown at dusk at the park, located at 1350 Ewing Rd, Coraopolis. The free event is sponsored by Moon Parks & Recreation.

Looking for a pet to adopt?  Adoption Day sponsored by the Animal Rescue League of Western PA and will be held on Saturday, August 4 starting at 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.  The shelter is located at 6620 Hamilton Ave, East Liberty.

For qualified adopters, the shelter is offering free adoptions of pets in an effort to empty its kennels. The event is in conjunction with the ASPCA's $100K Challenge.
