Nearly 100 Candidates Seek Open Montour Athletic Director Job

Long-time Spartans athletic director Mitch Galiyas retired at the end of June.

Montour School District has received 81 applications to replace its long-time athletic director who retired last month.

Mitch Galiyas retired in June as the longest full-time athletic director in the history of the Montour School District.

Bill Addy, human relations manager, told the school board last month that the large pool of candidates seeking to replace Galiyas is also "rather diverse."

Addy said it will take time to interview the applicants and narrow down the finalists. School officials would like to name a new athletic director soon.

Galiyas worked for 38 years in the district, spending nearly two decades of his tenure coaching Spartans football and 12 years coaching volleyball.

Addy said officials want to work as expeditiously as possible to fill the position, but they also want to do their due diligence to make sure they hire the right candidate for the job.

"That's our goal," he said.
