Robert Morris University to Host Robot-Building Competition
On Feb. 11, teams of high school students will design, build and program robots as part of a regional science and technology challenge.
On Feb. 11, high school students will gather to design, build and program robots at as part of the Southwestern Pennsylvania Regional Qualifying For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology Tech Challenge.
"Bowled Over" is the theme of this year's competition in which students' robots will be programmed to play a game similar to bowling. The robots, when built,will go head-to-head in a bowling competiton.
Students from RMU's School of Engineering, Mathematics and Science will host the event and provide technical support to high school students during the competition. They will also inspect the robots and act as referees during the bowling tournament.

Along with help from university students, a professional mentor will work with high school students through the challenge to raise awareness and increase enthusiasm about the fields of engineering, math and science.
Students will vie for awards and scholarship money and will also have the opportunity to qualify for the state competition Feb. 25 in Williamsport, PA.

The SEMS Research and Outreach Center and Google Pittsburgh will sponsor the event, which will be open to the public. The event will take place at the John Jay Center on 's Moon Township campus.
