Robert Morris Names Alumna as General Counsel

Renee T. Cavalovitch replaces Sid Zonn, who retired from RMU at the end of May.

Robert Morris University recently named Renee T. Cavalovitch vice president, general counsel and secretary to the board of trustees, effective Monday, July 1.

Cavalovitch replaces Sid Zonn, who retired from RMU at the end of May. She will report jointly to RMU President Gregory G. Dell’Omo and to Gary Claus, chairman of the trustees board. Cavalovitch will serve on the President’s Cabinet at RMU.

Cavalovitch is a 2001 graduate of Robert Morris with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. She earned her law degree from the University of Pittsburgh, and currently works at H.J. Heinz Company as corporate counsel responsible for managing transactions and counseling internal clients on a wide variety of issues. Prior to Heinz, Renee maintained a diverse practice with K&L Gates LLP in Pittsburgh, and she held several positions during a 10-year tenure with Baptist Homes of Western Pennsylvania, a nonprofit organization.

Cavalovitch has been a member of the RMU Board of Trustees since 2009, a position she will resign upon assuming her new role as general counsel.

“Renee’s professional expertise, combined with her experience as a RMU student and as a RMU trustee, will enable her to quickly step into the role of general counsel,” Dell’Omo said in a statement. “We welcome her leadership to the university.”
