RMU To Welcome One Young World To Campus

Robert Morris University will open its Moon Township campus to young people from around the world as part of the One Young World Summit taking place in Pittsburgh Oct. 18-22.

As a corporate sponsor, RMU will host two breakout sessions Oct. 20.   The School of Nursing and Health Sciences will present "Healthcare Leadership and Teams on the RISE" and the School of Engineering, Mathematics, and Science will host "Sustainability, Alternative Energy, and Green Manufacturing."

That day, RMU University Professor of Nursing Carl Ross will participate in a panel discussion, “Unintended Consequences of Aid” in the Cathedral of Learning Nationality Rooms at the University of Pittsburgh in Oakland. Ross oversees international nursing programs at RMU, including the university’s signature trip to Nicaragua twice each year where student nurses and faculty provide health care to low-income families.

RMU also is sponsoring two delegates, Sara Meier, a 2011 graduate and current student in the university’s MBA program, and 2012 graduate Besart Stavileci, a native of Kosovo who works as an assistant actuarial analyst at Sun Life Financial in Boston.

Another RMU alumna, Katie Kirkpatrick, will represent Bayer Corp. as a One Young World ambassador. Kirkpatrick, a 2008 RMU graduate, is a senior communications representative at Bayer and attended the One Young World Summit last year as a delegate in Switzerland. RMU University Editor Mark Houser is a member of the One Young World host committee.

Derya Jacobs, RMU vice provost for research and graduate studies, will also be hosting a dinner for delegates at her home on Oct. 20.

“We are very proud of the university’s involvement in the One Young World Summit. We are looking forward to the opportunity to welcome delegates from around the world to RMU and the Pittsburgh community,” said Jacobs.
