RMU Seeks Volunteers for 2013 'Frozen Four'

The university is hoping to recruit volunteers from the community to assist with the 2013 NCAA Division I hockey championship.

It may be nearly a year away, but is looking to recruit volunteers to help with the 2013 NCAA Division I Frozen Four championship, which it will host at Consol Energy Center.

Marty Galosi, senior associate athletic director at the university, said those interested in taking part in the three-day 2013 event can contact FrozenFour@rmu.edu or 412.397.6070 for more information. Click the media in this article to view more details on participating.

The university is hoping to gather 275 volunteers to assist with tournament activities. Many of those volunteers may come from the Moon-based university's own student body.

"We're really looking for people to be ambassadors, meaning, meet people and athletes at the hotels and airports," Galosi said. "We're also looking at having different hospitality events for visitors."

Galosi said volunteers may also be asked to take part in interactive displays for attendees or help with media relations work.

The NCAA Men's Division I Frozen Four semi-finals and finals, slated to be held April 11 to April 13, serves as the national championship for men's college ice hockey. The tournament will include 16 teams in a single-elimination play. RMU will host the semi-final "frozen four" at Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh in a bid that was co-sponsored by the Pittsburgh Penguins.

"To say that (the Frozen Four) gets (RMU's) name out there is short-selling it," Galosi said. "It demonstrates that we can bring a major sporting event to the city of Pittsburgh."
