RMU’s 87th Commencement Features First Class of Pittsburgh Promise Graduates

Approximately 700 students will receive their degrees over two days.

Saleem Ghubril, executive director of the Pittsburgh Promise, will be the keynote speaker at ’s undergraduate commencement ceremony at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 5, in the Sewall Center Arena at university’s Moon Township campus.

Sixteen Pittsburgh Promise students are among the 496 who will earn their bachelor’s degrees. The Pittsburgh Promise provides $10,000 a year in scholarships for Pittsburgh School District graduates. 

“Our mission at RMU is to change the lives of our students so they can change the lives of others, and this dovetails perfectly with the mission of the Pittsburgh Promise,” said RMU President Gregory G. Dell’Omo. “This first group of Promise students to complete their degrees have made a tremendous impact on the life of the campus, and we look forward to their roles as alumni.”

RMU will hold its graduate commencement ceremony at 4 p.m. Friday, May 4, also in the Sewall Center Arena. Among the 210 master’s and doctoral students will be Dell’Omo’s wife, Polly, who is earning a master’s degree in instructional leadership.

The keynote speaker at the graduate ceremony will be Barbara McNees, president of the Greater Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce and a member of the RMU Board of Trustees.
