"I think it's always difficult to ask for help, but when someone reaches out to you it just makes it a little bit easier," Sims said.

Tickets for the raffle are $10 each. Sims said sales have gotten off to a slow start, but she's hoping the spring weather will bring more interested donors. She said she'll have the quilts displayed on a table at the Moon Area High School musical May 21-22. Students at Bon Meade were given fliers with information on the raffle.

"I think [Kenan Bikul’s death] happened at a time when a lot of things [in the school district] were going on," Sims said of the slow ticket sales. "I lost a friend to cancer and I just think that it's always difficult when someone leaves children behind."
