Moon Students Qualify for International Academic Competition

Teams from around the country to face off in the Odyssey of the Mind finals next month.

Moon elementary and middle school students have qualified to compete in  the Odyssey of the Mind world finals at the University of Maryland next month.

Students from Allard and Bon Meade  elementary schools as well as the Moon Area Middle School will take on teams from around the country on May 27 after placing second in the state-level competition  earlier this week in Williamsport, PA.

Odyssey of the Mind is an academic program that features students competing in problem-solving exercises ranging in subject matter from mechanical devices to literature. Students are evaluated based on teamwork, creativity and critical thinking skills.

This is the second consecutive year that students from the Moon Area School District have  qualified for the competition's world finals, which will take place this year at the university's College Park campus.

  • Bon Meade Elementary: Leah Eberts, Sarah Ellis, R.J. Kanith, Shannon Melton, Julia Puhalla and Nick Ulven
  • Allard Elementary: Zach Gribben
  • Moon Area Middle School: Ally Bardusch, Emily Bolen, Beth Eberts, Jenna Foster, Natalie Melton, Rachel Melton and Angela Priola
