Moon Student Wins Honors for Artwork

The Art Institute of Pittsburgh awards senior Mercedez Linke a $10,000 scholarship.

A Moon Area High School student has been awarded a $10,000 scholarship and other honors for her artwork.

The Art Institute of Pittsburgh presented the scholarship to senior Mercedez Linke earlier this month, marking the second consecutive year that a Moon student won the honor from the institute, according the

Linke also won the Best of Show competition in the Visions and Voices High School Student Art Show, which the Pittsburgh Technical Institute sponsored. She topped 389 students from 79 schools for the honor in March. Students submitted work in mediums including painting, drafting, web design, film, drawing, sculpture, jewelry and ceramics.

Linke’s work in the competition, a painting titled “Give me Space,” was featured earlier this month on PTI’s North Fayette campus.

Linke will major in environmental design beginning this fall at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh.
