Moon School District, Support Staff Union Reach Tentative Deal

No details have been released on terms of the contract agreement.

The  has reached a tentative accord with its support staff union, but no details are available on the deal or how it will impact laid-off workers.  

District spokeswoman Megan Edwards said that though a tentative deal has been reached, no further information would be available until both the Moon Area School Board and members of the Educational Support Professionals Association/Pennsylvania State Education Association ratify the new contract. 

The district  19 support staff members and eight cafeteria workers June 30, the day the five-year contract between the district and support staff union expired.

Edwards said in July that the would be re-opened for bid based on seniority and that district anticipated "only three people will be furloughed for the upcoming school year." 

The district did not comment on how the new tentative contract might impact laid-off workers.

Edwards said because of stipulations in the union's contract with the district, positions must first be eliminated and then re-opened for bid.  

Prior to the furloughs, the district employed 130 support staff members.
