Moon Area High School Marching Band to Compete in PIMBA State Championships

The group will defend its crown at the competition.

The Moon Area High School Marching Band will perform its competitive show "Ascension" at the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Marching Band Association championships at 8:30 pm Saturday at Norwin High School.

Last year, the band won the PIMBA championship in its class, which is determined by the size of the band.

At the championships, judges consider each band's "competency in its visual and musical components and how well those components complement each other," said marching band director, Nicholas Barthen.

Saturday's performance will the band's final show in an seven-week season. So far this season, Moon Area High School Marching Band has competed against Kiski Area, Woodland Hills and West Allegheny high schools; it won first place in its class each time.

Barthen said he is confident that the marching band will defend its PIMBA crown.
