Montour Seniors Celebrate Graduation 2013

Montour High School's Class of 2013 marked the end of one chapter Thursday evening and the beginning of another.

Superintendent Donald E. Boyer told the gathering of students, faculty, family and friends that Montour's construction of the new senior school and athletic center stand as concrete evidence of the enormous movement forward for the school district.

"We are now on the threshold of new beginnings, the beginning of new methods of operations, new approaches to learning," Boyer said.

"Your success today reflects wise investment in education made by the citizens of Montour, especially by your parents, many of whom sacrificed a great deal to ensure for you a productive and rewarding life," Boyer said. "Most importantly, your success today reflects your personal investment, time and effort."

Principal Todd Price also addressed the graduating seniors, offering them advice to go forth with confidence.

“Each of you has succeeded in spite of the obstacles and challenges that have come your way.  Let your successes give you the ultimate confidence and reassurance that you can accomplish anything that you dedicate yourself to, remembering that life is about giving effort in all that you do."

The graduation ceremony took place inside Montour's Athletic Center because of rainy weather.

Keeping with tradition, Valedictorian Gregory John Lowry and Salutatorian Megan Sweeney Goodman offered words of wisdom to fellow graduating classmates.

Class President Marina Leanne Giannirakis also spoke to the graduating class.
