Life on Campus: It's Little Sibs Weekend at RMU

Students are invited to bring along younger brothers and sisters this weekend.

is hosting a decidedly younger set this weekend.

The university is holding Little Siblings weekend today and tomorrow. Students are invited to bring along their younger brothers and sisters to offer them a taste of life on campus at the university.

A portion of the events is sponsored by the Student Programming Board, the Office of Student Life and the university’s athletic department. The two-day event will feature Xbox competitions, a Build-a-Bear station, live music and scavenger hunts.

It’s an annual event that students look forward to each year, said RMU senior Jessica Stubbs, who is taking her younger brother Jason to the festivities.

Jason, 13, said he enjoys hanging out with his sister on campus -- and sampling the university's food selection.

“I like watching Colonials basketball and drinking the hot chocolate from RoMo’s Cafe,” he said. “But mostly, I love getting time to spend with my sister.”

Stubbs said the weekend gives her time to catch up with her younger brother.

“It’s going to be fun to just order pizza and hang out with him [Jason], knowing we can participate in the events,” Stubbs said.

Little Sibs events kicked off at 4 p.m. yesterday with registration, dinner and a showing of Toy Story 3. Activities today, which include ice skating at the Island Sports Center, run until 9:30 p.m., and the weekend will wrap up with a family brunch tomorrow.
