Bon Meade Students Raise $500 for Food Pantry
The event benefited the Moon-based West Hills Food Pantry.

What started out as a joke between a Moon Area teacher and one of his students turned into a windfall for the West Hills Food Pantry.

Barry Barthelemy, a fourth-grade teacher at , jokingly told student Jamie Perfett that he was going to shave off his long mop of hair before the end of the school year. Surprisingly, Jamie agreed and "Buzzing For Bucks" was born.
For a contribution to the , fourth-graders, staff and parents could watch Mr. Barthelemy give buzz cuts to Jamie and two of his classmates, Aleksander Kuzniarski and Nathan Thompson.

Last Tuesday, armed with his clippers and cheered on by enthusiastic students, "Mr.B" soon had the hair hitting the floor—and the contributions pouring in. The end result was three nearly bald boys and a $500 donation to the West Hills Food Pantry when contributions are most needed.
While contributions to the food pantry peak during the holiday season, they are at their. Families who rely on free breakfast and lunch programs at school sometimes find themselves struggling to provide those extra meals to their children at home and depend on the food pantry more than ever during the summer break.
Asked if he regretted losing all his hair, Jamie said, "No. I felt really good helping the food pantry."
In addition to the $500, the Bon Meade fourth grade is donating all unopened snacks and treats left over from their year-end Bon Voyage party and 4th grade field day.
