Crews recently discovered a stone block at the site of the former Moon Area Middle School, which is now under demolition.

The box contains a wooden key, engraved with the names of members of the Moon Area High School's 1954 Key Club, said district spokeswoman Megan Edwards.

The former middle school was constructed in 1954, the same year it opened as the district's first custom-built high school.

The building was closed at the beginning of the 2012-2013 school year, after the opening of the district's newly renovated middle school facility, which had prior served as its high school.

The vacated building served as Moon's high school until 1989.
