Work Under Way on Autumn Woods Landslide

Crews have to remedy a worsening landslide at the foot of the Autumn Woods housing plan.

New Castle-based Forbes Excavating began work on the hillside late last month. Township and state officials have  property owner New Pointe Realty of Moon to repair the , which was detected in 2007.

Crews are removing trees and clearing the hillside to prepare for excavation. Work was originally slated to begin on the slide earlier this year.

Water overflow from an improperly installed storm-water basin at the foot of the 34-house Autumn Woods development has pushed sediment downhill toward Becks Run and Flaugherty Run roads, uprooting trees and eroding land, since the basin was installed.

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection sent a to New Pointe during the summer requiring work to begin on the project Aug. 1.

Township Engineer Malcolm Petrccia told the that the project will not be completed until next year. Crews are working to complete the first of three phases of construction on the project this year.
