Township Transfers Carnot Property for Commercial Development

The Board of Supervisors also approved the hiring of a new township communications director.

The Wednesday approved the transfer of property at 548 Carnot Road, marking the first step toward the property's commercial development. 

"It is the interest of the Board of Supervisors to have that property developed," said board chairman Marv Eicher. "One, because it's an eyesore, and second, because if it's developed it puts the property on the tax rolls."

The township will transfer the property, which houses a township garage, to the , which holds the original deed for the lot.

The school district has permitted the township to use to the property under the agreement that if it discontinued use of the land it would transfer it back to the district.

Eicher said developers have expressed an interest in the lot, which is near the intersection of University Boulevard and Carnot Road.

Other items of interest from the board's Wednesday meeting:

  • The board awarded the township's 2012 road paving program to El Grande Industries, of Donora, at a base bid of $1,022,314.50. Youngblood Paving Inc., which performed the road improvements in 2011, withdrew its bid for the project.
  • The board awarded a bid for a multipurpose emergency response vehicle for the township volunteer fire department to Pierce Manufacturing in the amount of $606,312.00. The township rejected bids from E-One Inc. and First Out Specialty Vehicles.
  • The township hired Alexis Sergeant to the position of communications director at an annual salary of $29,500. Former communications director Meghan McNamara resigned from the position earlier this year.
  • Dana Kasler, director of , announced that country artist Thomas Rhett will headline this year's July 4 festival at Moon Park.
