Street Sweeping Under Way in Moon

The streets will be cleaned from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.

The township's Public Works department has started its 2012 street-sweeping program early this year. 

Public works director Jim Henkemeyer said the warm weather has enabled the department to get a head start on numerous projects for the year. Work also is under way on sidewalk improvements on Ceder Drive near the . 

"We've gotten started with street sweeping and things like that," Henkemeyer said. "We've also gotten started on work around [township] complexes and buildings."

Public works road crews plowed snow just once this winter—a drop from five days the previous year, said public works administrator John Scott. Roadcrews treated area roads with salt 20 times this winter. 

"It's a cycle," Henkemeyer said of the warm weather. "Every eight to 10 years we'll just see a really warm winter, and it's a typical pattern. We were able to catch up on money from last year, so it's been helping."

Road crews will work on street-sweeping operations from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday this spring. Residents are asked to remove their vehicles from the street if they hear a street sweeper moving through their neighborhood. 

Henkemeyer said the township's 2012 road pavement program will soon begin. The the 2012 program to El Grande Industries of Donora at a base bid of $1,022,314.50.
