Superstorm Sandy Has Little Effect on Sewickley

The Pittsburgh area braced for high winds, heavy rain and potential flooding through Tuesday morning, and thankfully the end result wasn't so bad.

National Weather Service:

The National Weather Service has lifted a flood warning for Allegheny County and surrounding areas. The warning, which went into effect at 6 p.m. Monday, included Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Clarion, Greene, Indiana, Jefferson, Lawrence and Washington counties in Pennsylvania. The warning extended until 11:45 a.m. Tuesday.

The National Weather Service warned that the flooding could hit small streams and urban areas.


Public Safety:

Sewickley Heights police reported a tree down at 3 a.m. Tuesday on Barberry Road that struck a fence. The fire department brought a backhoe to clear the tree from the roadway. 

Leetsdale police blocked off a flooded section of Village Drive overnight in the Quaker Village Shopping Center. The section of road remained blocked to traffic Tuesday night. Local police agencies in other local communities said there was nothing significant to report.
