Saturday's Trash Pickup Won't Occur Until Next Saturday

Peters Township is protesting Waste Management's decision.

Peters Township is protesting Waste Management's decision to delay Saturday, Dec. 29's trash pickup until Saturday, Jan. 5.

Waste Management was to pickup residents with a normal Friday pickup on Saturday, but reported that the trash was not picked up because of inclement weather.

"We are protesting this and examining our options. We hope to work out a better solution with Waste Management on this. Peters Township is working with the South Hills Council of Government to resolve this matter," stated township Manager Michael Silvestri.

Residents who were scheduled to have their garbage picked up on Thursday or Friday of last week will have their garbage picked up today, Monday, Dec. 31.

Here is the rest of the trash schedule for Peters Township:
Monday, Dec. 31: (Normal Monday Pickup - No Change)
Tuesday, Jan. 1: NO PICKUP - New Year's Day
Wednesday, Jan. 2: (Streets with Normal Tuesday Pickup)
Thursday, Jan. 3: (Streets with Normal Wednesday Pickup)
Friday, Jan. 4: (Streets with Normal Thursday Pickup)
Saturday, Jan. 5: (Streets with Normal Friday Pickup)

What are your thoughts on the trash pickup situation? Tell us in the comments.

I just want the service i am promised and pay for. If the company can afford to pay people to work 60 hours a week, assuming 20 hours of overtime, then they can hire more staff. I am sure the drivers are kind, gentle, hard working, love children and pets, and so on. I will deal with the Township over this. Writing about it sure vents the frustration, but does nothing to get it fixed. Not that getting the Township to respond on a holiday week will, either. Enjoyed chatting with all of you! Have a safe and healthy new year.

@Joseph - THANK YOU for taking The High-Road in this discussion thread! The Township resumes regular working hours of 830 AM - 430 PM starting tomorrow, Wednesday, January 2, 2013. Happy New Year to you and your family! All The Best to you in 2013! :-)

I agree with you entirely. If they cannot comply with their contract commitments it is time to revisit the contract and look for alternative providers. I'm thinking about starting a private contract service......

Roger, what I said was the drivers wait too long before hitting the button to dump the front of the truck into the back of the truck - overfilling the front. At times when they do trash falls onto the road - they see it and just drive off.

The trash was picked up today. Can't believe it. Thank you, Becky, for writing about it. I think your article did much to get the Township off its thumbs to pressure Waste Management to do its job. Now, the next question is, will they come again this Saturday? Ha ha ha!
