PennDOT Plans Highway Improvement Projects in Robinson-Moon

Several key transportation improvements will occur in 2013 on state-owned roads in Robinson and Moon townships.

Here’s a preview from PennDOT of the major road improvements scheduled for 2013 that will affect Robinson-Moon motorists:

  • I-376 Parkway West Micro-Resurfacing—This estimated up to $1 million project to apply a thin layer of resurfacing and upgrade guide rail on about two miles of the I-376 (Parkway West) between the Route 22-30/60 (Exit 60) interchange and the Boyce Road overpass/Campbells Run Road Interchange (Exit 62) will occur this summer. Some ramp improvements will also occur. Off peak lane restrictions should be expected.
  •  Route 22/Old Steubenville Pike Interchange—Work started in February on this $2 million project to improve the eastbound Route 22/Route 980/Potato Garden Road interchange in North Fayette Township. The project includes bridge superstructure and interchange rehabilitation, milling and resurfacing, concrete pavement patching, drainage, guide rail, shoulders, signing and pavement marking and other improvements. Lane closures and detours will occur through late fall.

In addition to the work listed above, District 11 will be making many improvements to the transportation system in Allegheny County through various county maintenance activities. District 11 will also be performing numerous bridge preservation and washing projects around the county in a continuing effort to address critical bridge needs.

PennDOT District 11 will invest an estimated $210 million on 66 projects to improve, preserve or rehabilitate transportation infrastructure including 24 bridges (18 structurally deficient) in Allegheny County in 2013.

In addition, 73 miles of roadway will be paved or resurfaced and more than $55 million will be invested in tunnel maintenance and improvements. Construction bids will be opened for 49 new projects this year valued at an estimated $282 million.

“Construction and highway maintenance season is under way with many transportation improvements planned for our region,” said District Executive Dan Cessna. “While we are out there making our roads and bridge better for the traveling public, we urge motorists to slow down and stay alert in work zones. Lives depend on you.”
