No Date Set for Moon Walmart Construction

The national retailer still awaits PennDOT approval for the project.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation still has not granted final approval for the construction on a new Moon Township Walmart.

PennDOT spokesman James Struzzi said the agency has approved a Walmart traffic impact study performed for the intersection of University Boulevard and Brodhead Road, where the 150,000-square-foot store will be built, but he said Wal-mart Stores Inc. has not yet applied for a highway occupancy permit for the project.

The occupancy permit marks the final step before construction on the Walmart may begin. The store will be in the former West Hills Center.

Officials from the retail chain have declined to discuss a timeline for the project's construction.

Township officials earlier this summer a lawsuit with Wal-mart Stores Inc. The company sued the township last year in an effort to amend several conditions of the township's land-development plan for the project.

The Moon Board of Supervisors approved construction of the store last summer.
