New Commander Assigned to Moon Township's 911th Airlift Wing

Col. Craig C. Peters will lead the Moon airlift wing until it's planned 2013 closure.

The Air Force has assigned Col. Craig C. Peters as the new commander of the Moon-based 911th Airlift Wing

Peters, who currently serves as operations group commander of the 910th Airlift Wing, located in Youngstown, Ohio, replaces former Commander Col. Jeffrey T. Pennington. 

Pennington, who had served at the 911th since 2010, was in March to the 433rd Airlift Wing at Lackland Air Force Base in Alamo, Texas.

The 911th will host a change of command ceremony May 6. Peters has served at the Youngstown air station since 2009 and has logged more than 7,100 hours as a pilot. 

The Air Force intends to the 911th in 2013, eliminating the base's more than 1,100 military and 280 civilian positions.

The wing is slated to as a part of a $4.7 billion nationwide initiative aimed at cutting federal defense spending. The plan also includes the re-alignment of the neighboring 171st Refueling Wing in Moon.
