Moon Supervisor Transferred, Home for Sale

Chairman of the Board of Supervisors says supervisors have no policy governing attendance at meetings.

Moon Supervisor Tim McLaughlin, who works for U.S. Airways, has been transferred to a job outside of Pennsylvania, and it's not clear what impact that move will have on his role as a township official.

McLaughlin, whose term on the township board of supervisors expires in December, is currently in Charlotte, NC, board Chairman Jim Vitale said. The airline transferred McLaughlin's customer service position  to North Carolina earlier this year, Vitale said.

McLaughlin could not be reached for comment.

"As of right now he is still going to be a supervisor in Moon," Vitale said. "At this point, I don't think it is an issue. We're able to keep in contact with everybody if an important issue comes up."

McLaughlin owns a home in the township, located on Snell Drive, according to Allegheny County property records. It is listed for sale through Prudential Real Estate.

Vitale said McLaughlin's work in North Carolina won't affect his ability to serve on the board. Vitale said additional issues with his residency will be discussed in executive session. McLaughlin, who was ousted as the board's chairman at the Jan. 3 reorganization meeting, did not attend the board's Feb. 2 meeting.

"From what I gather, there actually isn't an attendance policy [for supervisors]," Vitale said. "I do believe he is going to make a public statement to discuss this."

Supervisor Marvin Eicher questioned the future of McLaughlin's residency in Moon at the board's reorganization meeting.

McLaughlin said at that meeting he was still able to serve the township, despite the sale of his home.

"Where are my taxes paid?" McLaughlin said to Eicher.
