Montour School District Sues Robinson Township

The Montour School District has filed a lawsuit against Robinson Township, claiming the township made it pay about $215,000 more than was necessary for a building permit for high school renovations, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

The newspaper reports the lawsuit was filed last week in the Allegheny County Common Pleas Court and alleges the municipality of levying an "illegal tax on the school district."

The ordinance requires the fee to be based on the "estimated costs of the physical value of alteration of a project or to reflect the costs and expenses incurred by the township," according to the lawsuit obtained by the newspaper.

The district is reportedly seeking a refund, including interest dating back to 2008, when the permit fee was paid.
