Minor Flooding Reported on Several Moon Roadways

Basement flooding has been reported in the township.

It's over. The flash flood warning? Done. Tornado watch? Not an issue.

But a flood warning remains in effect until 6:45 p.m., according to the

"Flooding continues in many areas of Allegheny County, especially ... but not limited to ... the northeastern part of Allegheny County," the weather service said in a statement issued at noon. "Flooding continues in the Etna and Millvale areas, as well as the Oakmont and Ross and Shaler township areas."

Township manager Jeanne Creese said no major flooding was reported in Moon today, but the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the township have been working to clear debris and minor flooding from several locations, which include both state, county and township roads. 

"We did get some reports of minor basement flooding as well as some street flooding," Creese said. "There were instances of catch basins clogging with debris."

Flooding in Moon was reported on Beaver Grade Road, Boggs School Road, University Boulevard, Moon-Clinton Road and the Spring Run Road extension. Township Communications Director Meghan Gallagher said much of the flooding and debris was cleared by mid-morning. 

Manager Patience Eckhardt said no major flooding was reported near the Ohio River. 

A thunderstorm warning was in effect for the region until 8:15 a.m. today, and a tornado warning was effective until 1 p.m. Dozens of roads in other Allegheny County municipalities were closed as a result of flooding. 

Gallagher said residents can report emergency flooding by calling the dispatch at 412-262-5000 or 9-1-1. Non-emergencies can be reported by calling the township's administrative line at 412-262-1700. Messages left after-hours will be returned the following day.
