Local Lawmakers Weigh In On Inauguration

Moon and Robinson-area lawmakers tout bi-partisanship following President Barack Obama's second swearing-in ceremony.

President Barack Obama took his second oath of office Monday during the official swearing-in ceremony at the Capitol building in Washington D.C.

Congressmen Tim Murphy, R-Upper St. Clair, and Mike Doyle, D-Forest Hills, weighed in on Obama's second-term inauguration, which was celebrated by more than 700,000 people gathered near the National Mall.

From Rep. Murphy:

“As we mark the 57th  presidential inauguration today, we celebrate the strength of our democracy and commemorate our country’s perseverance and unity. Within our diversity of opinion and cultures, we remain one American family working together for the betterment of our great nation. God Bless the United States of America.”

Rep. Doyle spoke to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review about the event:

The festivities showcase “the beauty of America and her strength” and give people a chance to “respect the decision of the election” no matter whom they supported.

“That has been our great tradition,” Doyle said
