Government Shutdown: 911th Airlift Wing Furloughs Civilian Workforce

Civilian members of Moon Township's 911th Airlift Wing were furloughed on Tuesday morning as part of the government shutdown affecting roughly 800,000 federal workers.

"This morning we initiated a systematic and orderly shutdown of all nonessential operations, which included furloughing our civilian workforce as a result of the government-wide shutdown," the 911th Public Affairs said in a released statement yesterday. "This action is extremely unfortunate, given that we just completed a furlough two months ago. As result of a lack of a FY 14 appropriations, we have curtailed all flying operations and postponed all training until later in the year. In the meantime, our primary mission is to maintain a high level of security for our installation throughout the shutdown period."

The statement said the 911th remains focused on supporting Citizen Airmen and civilians, both home and abroad, who are negatively impacted by the government shutdown.

The American Federation of Government Employees estimates more than 800,000 federal employees are furloughed.
