Goddard School for Early Childhood Development to Open in Moon Township

A new early childhood education school is slated to open on Commerce Drive.

The owner of said a Moon Township location for the school is slated to open its doors in January 2013. 

The last night approved a final major land development plan for the school, which will be located at the cul-de-sac on Commerce Drive. 

Owner Matthew L. Speranza said the franchise school will enroll 132 students and employ 20 accredited staff members at the Moon location. 

"Goddard School is an upscale childcare center," said Speranza, who with his wife Dina will own the Moon branch of the school. "We will serve children ages six weeks to five years." 

Developers said they hope to break ground on the 8,500-square foot building in July. 

The Moon Township location will mark the fourth Goddard School in the Pittsburgh region; franchises for the school are located in  and  in addition to Cranberry. The school's philosophy emphasizes the importance of the emotional, "social, intellectual and physical development in young children," according to its website.  

Speranza said tuition fees will be determined on an individual basis for students. 

  • The Board of Supervisors last night also approved an ordinance to amend provisions of pension plan. 
  • The board approved a request filed by Lane Construction to perform PennDOT roadwork on during nighttime hours. Crews will work in the evening to avoid traffic congestion in the area, said Manager Jeanne Creese. 
  • The board approved a contractor payment for work done to the in the amount of $37,512.
