Tractor Trailer Crash Injures One Driver, Dumps Metal Off University Boulevard

Moon emergency crews clear the crash, which spills fuel and scrap metal along roadway.

Emergency personnel earlier today cleared a tractor trailer crash on University Boulevard that injured one motorist and spilled heaps of scrap metal along the road.

Chief Leo McCarthy said a commercial tractor trailer careened off University Boulevard after making a left-hand turn off Stoops Ferry Road, crashing on its side and dumping its load of twisted scrap metal.

Moon firefighters extricated the driver from the truck. McCarthy said the motorist was alert and speaking to emergency crews during the ordeal.

"It took about 15-20 minutes to cut him out," McCarthy said. "It was one of the more difficult rescues."

The driver has been transported to a nearby hospital. Police redirected traffic in the intersection while the crash was cleared.

The tractor trailer was the only vehicle involved in the crash. Police have not determined the company that owns it, McCarthy said.

"It could have been a number of things," McCarthy said of the cause of the crash. "He went off the road has he was making that turn. His load may have shifted."
