State Police Net Arrests in 'Operation Maximum Effort'

State troopers from across the state, including Moon Township's Troop D barracks, took part in the effort.

in Moon took part in a statewide, three-day enforcement "crackdown" that helped recover more than $10,000 worth of stolen cash and merchandise. 

State troopers were placed on major highways across the state as a part of the operation, which took place from May 29 to May 31, according to a state police statement.

Troopers received training from Operation Shield for the effort, which teaches officers to identify signs of criminal activity after motorists have been stopped for routine offenses, such as speeding.

Across the state, troopers seized $9,663 in cash, 39 grams and 611 packets of heroin, 27 pounds of cocaine, 23 pounds of marijuana, 90 assorted pills and four fake identification cards, according to a state police. 

One vehicle was also seized during the stings and two illegal immigrants were detained.

In total, state police arrested 18 individuals for driving under the influence of a controlled substance, 103 for seatbelt violations, 25 for failure to use child safety seats and issued 487 traffic citations. 

State police called the three-day crackdown "Operation Maximum Effort." Information on local arrests as a result of the program was not immediately available. 

The state police's barracks serving Allegheny County is located on McCormick Road in Moon Township.
