Shaler Father Who Shot Family Worked at Pittsburgh International Airport

Allegheny County Airport Authority officials say James Edwards was an electrician at the airport.

A Shaler Township man who shot his wife, son and daughter early Thursday morning worked at Pittsburgh International Airport, according to airport authority officials. 

According to various news reports, James Edwards, 52, went room to room and fired on his immediate family, killing his 19-year-old daughter Laurin and wounding his 51-year-old wife and 21-year-old son. 

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports his wife, Charlene Edwards, and son James Edwards, both remain in critical condition at a hospital. The family dog, a beagle, was also killed.

Allegheny County Airport Authority President Bradley D. Penrod released a statement expressing deep condolences to the victims of the shooting: 

“James Edwards was employed as an electrician at Pittsburgh International Airport. I wish to convey the sympathy of the Allegheny County Airport Authority organization and board of directors to the relatives and friends of the victims of this horrible tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with the wife and son in their recovery from their injuries.”

The Airport Authority is not releasing any other information on Edwards due to personnel matters.
