Moon Man Charged with Using Forged Prescriptions at Area Pharmacies

Agents from the Pennsylvania Attorney General's office said a Moon Township man fraudulently obtained more than 1,200 prescription painkilling pills, sometimes forging his mother's name to pass the scripts at pharmacies in Moon and Robinson.

Ryan Blumling, 32, of Brodhead Road, told investigators he would sometimes obtain legitimate scripts from doctors and then "wash" the script—wiping it blank with acetone so he could add the drug and quantity he desired.

Blumling is charged with forgery, insurance fraud and drug possession in connection to the incident. 

A physician in Monaca contacted investigators in April after learning that a man identified as Blumling passed several fraudulent prescriptions in the Beaver County area using his signature. 

The doctor said he did not write or authorize the scripts. 

Investigators said Blumling had received painkillers from as many as nine area doctors, sometimes on multiple occasions, using forged signatures, according to a criminal complaint. 

He obtained the scripts at Porter's Pharmacy and Walgreens in Moon Township, Sam's Club in Robinson as well as other pharmacies in Beaver County, agents said. 

State agents said Blumling gave a statement admitting he sometimes presented the scripts in his mother's name and used his Health America insurance to pay for several of the fake prescriptions. 

Investigators said Blumling fraudulently received 1,200 oxycodone pills in total in April and May of this year. 

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 26 in Coraopolis District Court.
