UPDATE: Car Wash and Laundromat Business Catches Fire on Fifth Avenue

The fire started at the Stop 'N Glo Car Wash and Laundromat, 855 Fifth Ave.

The Allegheny County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of an early morning fire that destroyed a Coraopolis business.

Coraopolis Fire Chief Larry Byrge said the borough's volunteer fire department was called to respond at 1:37 a.m. Monday to the Stop 'N Glo Car Wash and Laundromat, 855 Fifth Ave.

When firefighters arrived, he said flames were visible from the roof and coming out of a couple of windows.

"It spread to the rest of the building," Byrge said. "The building is a total loss."

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire at the car wash, where nothing is left but the walls. Byrge said the owner Melvin Gill has lived and worked in town for nearly 40 years.

Neighboring fire departments assisted, including Neville, Groveton, Sewickley, Kennedy, and Stowe. Firefighters remained on scene for about 10 hours. Nobody was injured.
