Police Search Moon Student's Home after Threats
Police Chief said the student was suspended from school but has not been charged in the incident.
searched the home of a student Tuesday evening after reports that he threatened students and staff.
Police Chief Leo McCarthy said the student, who is a juvenile, is undergoing a psychiatric evaluation and has been cooperating with the investigation. He has been suspended from school but has not been charged in connection with the incident.
McCarthy said fellow students reported the threats to school officials Tuesday morning. The district arranged a meeting between Moon Capt. Greg Seamon, Officer Brian Buydasz, the student's parents and counselors to discuss the incident.

McCarthy said the student is an upperclassman in the district and has no previous criminal history in Moon. He declined to discuss the specific nature of the student's threats.
"The school has a long history of cooperating with police," McCarthy said. "In fact, we have a memorandum of agreement drawn up on how to deal with situations such as this."

McCarthy said the student's parents allowed police to enter the home, where officers seized both computers and printed material that contained the threats. He said the Allegheny County District Attorney's office will evaluate the content of the student's materials to decide if criminal charges are appropriate. A spokesman for District Attorney Stephen A. Zappala Jr. had no comment on the matter today.
"We began to draw up a search warrant immediately after the meeting [with the student's parents]," McCarthy said. "Everyone has been extremely cooperative. We're hopeful that this can be resolved. Often teenagers are troubled and people do things as kids that they wouldn't do as an adult."
