Police Charge Second Ex-Detective with Prostitution Offenses

charged a second former Pittsburgh narcotics detective Friday with taking part in a prostitution ring.

Former detective Faquar Holland, 39, of Charleroi, was charged with felony promoting prostitution, five counts of felony corrupt organization and criminal conspiracy after police said he purchased online prostitution advertisements alongside fellow former Pittsburgh narcotics detective Talib Kevin Ghafoor.

with promoting prostitution in March following an undercover prostitution at a Moon hotel. He was again charged in May with organizing a prostutition ring and purchasing online prostitution ads with his personel credit card.

Holland and Ghafoor worked as partners in the Pittsburgh Police Department. The two former detectives were honored as the department's Officers of the Year in 1999.

Moon Det. Charles Carr arrested Holland Friday after obtaining a search warrant for his Charleroi home. McCarthy said when taken into custody, Holland waived his Miranda rights and gave "substantial ommissions related to this activity."

"He was extremely cooperative," McCarthy said. "I can't give you the whole statement, but he did make substantial omissions."

Holland resigned from the Pittsburgh Police Department in 2007 after pleading guilty to forgery. Ghafoor resigned from the department in 2008 after more than 20 years with the department. He was being investigated for making contradictory statements regarding a homicide investigations, but was not charged with wrongdoing.

McCarthy said he was released from the Allegheny County Jail Saturday after posting $10,000 bail. He will face a preliminary hearing tomorrow in Coraopolis District Court.

"Will there be more arrests in this case, I don't know," McCarthy said. "This is a step-by-step investigative process."
