Update: Man Treated for Smoke Inhalation after Hassam Road Blaze

House sustains heavy smoke damage in early morning fire near J.H. Brooks Elementary.

said one man was treated for smoke inhalation early this morning after a house fire at 1731 Hassam Road. 

Moon Officer David Stitch said James Dermitt, 45, was found sitting in the yard after a FedEx delivery man called 911 to report the blaze. He said the cause of the fire was not known. 

Dermitt was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. No one else was in the home at the time of the fire.

Stitch said the home sustained heavy smoke damage and was not inhabitable. He said family members are assisting Dermitt. 

Emergency personnel reported to the home near J.H. Brooks Elementary shortly after 8 a.m. and remained there for much of the morning.

Property records show John Eichenmuller and Barbara Dermitt of Mars own the home.
