Moon Township Man Charged with Homicide by Vehicle in Fatal Hit-and-Run

Allegheny County Police have charged a Moon Township man with a fatal hit-and-run crash that happened over the weekend in Leetsdale

Shontelle Harvey, 41, is being held in the Allegheny County Jail without bond, according to court records.

He is charged with homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence, accidents involving death, driving under the influence, and summary vehicle violations of improper pass on the right, speeding and reckless driving.

Charles Britt, 67, of Penn Hills, was identified as the person struck and killed early Sunday morning on Route 65 in Leetsdale, authorities said.  He was pronounced dead at 3:08 a.m.

Leetsdale police were called to the crash scene at 3 a.m. and found Britt lying in the southbound berm of Route 65 next to his car. 

Sewickley police later stopped Harvey's vehicle on Chadwick Street in Sewickley, where he was taken into custody. 

Harvey was arraigned hours later, and his bail was denied. 

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11 a.m. Aug. 30 before Pres. Judge Donna Jo McDaniel.
