Moon Township Police Charge Three People with Drug-Related Offenses

Police handled two marijuana-related cases and one paraphernalia posession/assault case.

Three people face drug-related charges after separate incidents handled by Moon Township police.

  • Kiersten Renee Frankert, 19, of Bethel Park is charged with possession of a small amount of marijana and possession of drug paraphernalia after an incident about 2:55 a.m. April 23. While monitoring traffic near the Kenny Ross Toyota on University Boulevard, a Moon police officer noticed a car traveling withouth the headlights. The officer conducted a traffic stop near Tiger Trail and detected a strong odor of marijuana on Frankert, who was the driver. Frankert produced a plastic sandwich bag with remnants of a substance suspected of being marijuana. A search of the car produced empty cigar wrappers, a grinder and empty sandwich bags. Frankert passed field sobriety tests and a preliminary breath test was negative for alcohol but she tested positive for marijuana. She faces a preliminary hearing before District Judge Mary P. Murray at 9:30 a.m. June 4.
  • Raymond Joseph Bigos, 22, of Moon Township is charged with simple assault and possession of drug paraphernalia after an argument with another person on Hemlock Drive at 3:34 a.m. April 20. Police took a blue marijuana pipe as evidence. Bigos was taken to Allegheny County Jail but he was released after posting bail. He faces a preliminary hearing at 9:30 a.m. April 30 in district court. 
  • Kevin Branton Happel, 18, of Moon Township is charged with possession of marijuana after an incident about 7:25 p.m. April 17. Police answered a call on Kris Drive about an odor of marijuana. When police arrived at the scene, they saw three people behind a trash bin. The three men ran through the woods onto Fern Hollow Road, then onto Rivercrest Drive. Happel ran toward an officer coming out the woods and was apprehended. The officer detected a strong odor of marijuana on him. When Happel emptied his pockets, police found a sandwich bag with a "sizeable" amount of a loose, green, vegetable matter. The two other men also smelled of marijuana and had a brownish, discoloration to their tongues. Happel admitted to police that he and two friends had purchased five to six grams of marijuana that they had smoked behind the trash bin. Happel faces a preliminary hearing in district court at 9:30 a.m. on June 4.
