Moon Student Brings BB Gun to Bus Stop

No one was injured in the incident.

said a 9-year-old Hyde Elementary student earlier today brought a loaded BB gun to a school bus stop.

Police Chief Leo McCarthy said township public works crews that were performing repairs at the Mooncrest Community Center on Hemlock Drive noticed that a boy waiting at a nearby bus stop had what appeared to be a handgun in his waistband.

Police arrived and took possession of the loaded BB gun. No one was injured in the incident.

McCarthy said no criminal charges would be brought against the boy because of his age. He said the Office of Children, Youth and Family Services has been notified of the incident and will likely conduct an investigation.

"The district is following the appropriate school discipline policies and procedures to resolve the situation," said Megan Edwards, spokeswoman for the in a statement.

Moon Officer David Stitch, who responded to the incident, said the boy did not indicate why he brought the gun to the bus stop.
