Moon Mechanic Charged with Stealing Money from Business

A former Moon Township mechanic faces a preliminary hearing on Jan.

The former head mechanic at a Moon Township auto repair shop has been charged with theft by unlawful taking after police said he retained cash from the business for personal use.

Keith Michael Alberts, 53, of Pittsburgh, turned himself into Moon Police on a warrant earlier this month after police charged him with stealing $4,546.27 from the Moon Service Center on Beaver Grade Road.

Alberts had been employed as the lead mechanic at the shop and was overseeing day-to-day business transactions.

Beginning in 2011, Alberts retained cash paid to the garage by a waste oil company as well as additional payments related to vehicle repairs and inspections performed at the service center, wrote Moon Officer Judith DeAngelis in a complaint.

The repair shop's owner contacted police in November after discovering discrepancies in the shop's finances. He had confronted Alberts on at least one previous occasion about stealing money from the business, DeAngelis wrote.

Alberts, who is also charged with receiving stolen property, is scheduled to face a preliminary hearing Jan. 15 in Coraopolis District Court.
