The girl and her boyfriend were walking home from McDonalds along Moon Clinton Road on the evening of Oct. 29, police said.

The teen was walking ahead of her boyfriend near Convair Drive, when the boy said he "heard a thud and saw the girl go down in front of him," according to a police report.

When police found the girl she was "lying on her back bleeding from the mouth and unconscious. Her blue jeans were ripped and her shoes and socks were off her feet."

Her boyfriend told police that she "could not speak and was gurgling and had difficulty breathing," according to the report.

The girl was flown from the scene of the crash to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. Police said she was hospitalized for weeks following the crash and was treated at an inpatient physical rehabilitation center.

Dilley came foward days after the crash, telling investigators that he believed he hit a deer with his 2009 Chevrolet Silverado as he was driving home that night from the Appain Way Cafe & Lounge, located on Moon Clinton Road.

As he was driving back from the bar, he said, he thought he had spotted a deer and "jerked his wheel to the right." He continued home without stopping and later discovered that the front of his vehicle was damaged, he said.

He learned that a girl was injured on the road through news reports.
