Man Charged with Assaulting Trooper after Route 65 Chase, Crash

State police say Gregory Omlor also fought with Pittsburgh Police at Allegheny General Hospital, where he was treated after crashing his car on Ohio River Boulevard.

State police in Moon Township said they charged a Sewickley man with aggravated assault, resisting arrest and other offenses Sunday morning after he led troopers on a high-speed chase and crashed a car on Ohio River Boulevard on Pittsburgh's North Side.

Troopers in Moon said Gregory Omlor, 23, fought with and tried to injure Tpr. Andrew Reith and Pittsburgh Police Officers Daniel Stangrecki and Mark Pisano after his arrest early Sunday on Route 65, south of the intersection with Interstate 279. He is awaiting arraignment in Municipal Court in Pittsburgh.

Omlor led police on a chase that began at 11:30 p.m. Saturday and ended when he crashed on Route 65, according to a report filed by state police. They did not say what prompted the chase.

Omlor's encounter with Tpr. Reith occurred at the crash scene, according to the report. He also tried to assault the Pittsburgh officers later when he was taken to Allegheny General Hospital on the North Side, according to the report.

In addition to three counts of aggravated assault, Omlor is charged with three counts of resisting arrest, driving under the influence, fleeing and eluding, reckless driving and other traffic violations.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 19.
