Ex-Detective Faces Additional Prostitution Charges

Moon Police Chief Leo McCarthy said former detective conspired with others to organize a prostitution ring.

A former Pittsburgh detective arrested in an undercover sting also organized a prostitution ring, said Chief Leo McCarthy.

, 55, of East Liberty, was arrested by Moon Police in March after police said he drove his girlfriend to the on Cherrington Parkway to have sex for money with an undercover Moon detective.

Following his arrest, Moon Police charged Ghafoor with three counts of felony prostitution and criminal conspiracy as well as one count of misdemeanor possessing instruments of crime.

Now police say Ghafoor conspired with others to organize a prostitution ring. McCarthy said Ghafoor used his personel credit card to purchase online advertisements for prostitutes.

Ghafoor was charged today with two counts of third degree felony promoting prostitution, two counts of felony criminal conspiracy, four counts of felony corrupt organization and two counts of possessing instruments of crime.

"The women involved with the ring are now cooperating with our officers," McCarthy said in a statement.

Frank Walker, who serves as Ghafoor's defense attorney, said Ghafoor was released from Allegheny County Jail on a non-monetary bond.

"I think it's clear that [Ghafoor] is a wanted man and that the Moon Police are after him," Walker said.

Ghafoor resigned from the Pittsburgh Police Department in 2008 after more than 20 years with the department. He resigned while being investigated for giving contradictory testimony in a homicide investigation. He was not charged with wrongdoing in the incident.

Ghafoor's girlfriend, Sabina Earlene Sailer, 43, of Florida, is charged with three counts of felony prostitution and criminal conspiracy and one count of misdemeanor prostitution.

Police said Moon detectives contacted Sailer after viewing an adverstisment for adult services on the website Backpage.com.
