Update: Hearing Postponed for Ex-Detective Facing Prostitution Charges

Talib Kevin Ghafoor has been charged in connection with an undercover prostitution sting in Moon.

Update: The preliminary hearing for Talib Kevin Ghafoor has been postponed and rescheduled for 1 p.m. June 21. 

Ghafoor, a former Pittsburgh Police Officer of the Year, today had been scheduled to face a preliminary hearing in Coraopolis District Court on prostitution charges.

Ghafoor, 55, of East Liberty, was with two counts of third-degree felony promoting prostitution, two counts of felony criminal conspiracy, four counts of felony corrupt organization and two counts of possessing instruments of crime.

 said the former Pittsburgh narcotics detective conspired with others to organize a prostitution ring and purchased online prostitution advertisements on the website Backpage.com.

In March,  with three counts of felony prostitution and criminal conspiracy and one count of misdemeanor possessing instruments of crime in connection to an undercover prostitution sting at the Courtyard by Marriott hotel on Cherrington Parkway.

He is scheduled to appear for a formal arraignment on those charges June 21 at the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas.

Police said that in March he drove his girlfriend to the hotel to have sex for money with an undercover Moon detective.

Ghafoor resigned from the Pittsburgh Police Department in 2008 after more than 20 years with the department. He resigned while being investigated for giving contradictory testimony in a homicide investigation. He was not charged with wrongdoing in the incident.
