Driver in Good Condition at AGH after Head-on Crash on Stoops Ferry Road

Rescue crews extricate trapped man this morning after his car collides with a tractor- trailer.

A West Virginia man is being treated at Allegheny General Hospital after a head-on collision just before 7:30 a.m. today on Stoops Ferry Road in Moon Township.

Moon Police said Craig Wolfarth, 54, of Weirton, was driving north on Stoops Ferry Road when he collided head-on with a tractor-trailer truck driving in the opposite direction. In a report, police said Wolfarth's car drifted across two lanes of traffic before colliding with the tractor-trailer.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Stephen Fulwylie, 62, of Pittsburgh, stated in the report that he attempted to pull over as far as he possibly could to avoid impact with the oncoming car, but both vehicles were significantly damaged and had to be towed.

"At the time, paramedics were fearful that Wolfarth might not survive," said McCarthy.

AGH now lists him in good condition.

"It's more likely that Wolfarth fell asleep at the wheel," McCarthy said, "which is what he indicated when we interviewed him briefly before he was taken to the hospital."
